The two main types of cells are prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells:

Prokaryotic cells:

- Prokaryotic cells are simpler in structure and lack membrane-bound organelles and a true nucleus.
- They are typically smaller in size and found in organisms such as bacteria and archaea.
- The genetic material in prokaryotic cells is located in a region called the nucleoid, which is not enclosed by a nuclear membrane.
- Prokaryotic cells contain ribosomes for protein synthesis and may have other structures like flagella for movement and pili for attachment.

Eukaryotic cells:

- Eukaryotic cells are more complex in structure and contain membrane-bound organelles, including a nucleus.
- They are found in organisms belonging to the kingdoms Protista, Fungi, Plantae, and Animalia.
- Eukaryotic cells have a true nucleus, which houses the genetic material (DNA) within a nuclear envelope.
- In addition to ribosomes, eukaryotic cells contain organelles such as the endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, mitochondria, chloroplasts (in plant cells), lysosomes, and vacuoles.
- Eukaryotic cells are typically larger and more diverse in shape and function compared to prokaryotic cells.
