Let the bigger number be X
And the smaller number be Y
X+Y=17
2X-3Y=4
Then X=17-Y
2(17-Y)-3Y=4
34–2Y-3Y=4
34–4=5Y
30=5Y
Y=6
X=17–6=11 Ans.

Let the two consecutive numbers be x and x+1 respectively.
The sum of thrice the smaller and the twice the larger is 17
3x+2(x+1)=17
3x+2x+2=17
5x+2=17
5x=17-2
5x=15
x=15÷3
x=3
x+1=4
To find the smaller number as a percentage of the sum of the two numbers
We have:
(x÷(x+(x+1)) ×100 = (3÷(3+4))×100
=(3÷7)× 100
=0.428571×100
=42.8571%
~42.9%. (to 3 s.f)
