A uniform capillary tube closed at one end contained dry air trapped by a thread of mercury 16cm long. When the tube was held vertically, with the closed end at the bottom, the length of the trapped air column is 30cm. Calculate the air column when the tube is held i. Horizontally ii. Vertically with the open end underneath (Atmospheric pressure = 76 cm of mercury)?
