Why there’s no complete cure for HIV yet
1. HIV hides inside the body
HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) attacks immune cells (CD4 cells) and hides inside them.
Once inside, it can stay “silent” (inactive), so:
Medicines can’t easily find and destroy all the virus
Even if most of it is removed, hidden ones can start multiplying again
2. The virus changes (mutates) very fast
HIV is very good at changing its structure:
This makes it hard for one single drug to destroy it permanently
It can become resistant to treatment if not properly managed
3. It attacks the immune system itself
HIV weakens the same system that should fight it:
So the body cannot fully eliminate the virus on its own
But there is effective treatment
Even though there’s no cure yet, we have Antiretroviral Therapy (ART):
It reduces the virus to very low levels
People can live long, healthy lives
It also prevents spreading HIV to others if taken correctly
This is why HIV is now managed like a long-term condition.
What about AIDS?
Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is the advanced stage of HIV infection:
It happens when the immune system is badly damaged
Treatment can still help, but it’s more serious at that stage

Gene therapy
Vaccines
“Shock and kill” methods to flush out hidden HIV
Some rare cases of cure exist, but they involve very complex medical procedures (not yet practical for everyone).
