An organic compound M contain 40% of carbon, 53.3% of oxygen, 6.7% if hydrogen. The vapour density of M is 30. The organic compound reacts with sodium hydrogen trioxocarbonate(iv) and a colourless gas which turned lime water milky was liberated. On heating under reflux, the mixture of M and propanol, a sweet smelling liquid N is formed.
1) determine the empirical formula and molecular formula of M.
2) Give the formula for the functional group present in M.
3) What is the name of the colourless gas liberated, support your answer with a chemical equation.
4) Name the reaction which took place between M and propanol and and write chemical equation for the reaction.
5) Give the IUPAC name for the product, N formed.
