Conduction is the process by which heat energy is transferred through a material, the average position of the particles remaining the same.
for example if you dip a silver spoon into a hot tea the handle of the spoon very quickly becomes hot, the heat from the hot water has been transfered along the metal handle to the other end of the spoon by conduction.
