UNN Faculty of Engineering produces anti-COVID-19 digital machine

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has launched a contactless digital hand cleaning machine in its effort to curb the spread of COVID-19. It was gathered that the equipment uses a censor to monitor body temperature, dispense hand sanitizer, detergent, and water.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Igwe, while inspecting the equipment produced by the Faculty of Engineering, noted that the machine was an improvement over the manual hand cleaning machine that dispenses detergent and water.

“This machine is different from what we have seen before, it performs four functions at a time without the user making any physical contact”, the Vice-Chancellor said after using the machine to clean his hand and measure his temperature.

The Vice Chancellor used the opportunity to challenge the Faculty of enfineering and other faculties in the institution to go beyond writing rezsearch papers and come up with more inventions, products and desinga that will directly impact the society.

While commenting on the achievement, the Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Emeka Obe, revealed that the machine was produced within four weeks by the Auto Service Centre of the faculty. He said that the production cost, estimated at over N300,000, was contributed by staff members in the service centre. He appealed for sponsorship to enable the faculty mass produce the machine which he believed would simplify the process of monitoring prevention against the COVID-19.
