A student of the Department of Mathematics, University of Lagos, Adiele Ugochukwu Oliver has emerged overall winner of the National Mathematics Competition for University Students. As a result of this, the University came first in the ranking of the sixteen (16) universities that participated in the Competition.

Fifty three students from different universities in the country participated in the Competition organized by the National Mathematics Centre (NMC), Abuja.

UNILAG was represented by a team of four 400-level students drawn from the Department of Mathematics. The other members of the team are: . Ajayi Kehinde Peter, Martin-Ikpehai Jacqueline and Musa Oluwaseun. The team won two gold and two silver medals out of the five gold and ten silver medals available nation wide.

As part of the prizes won, NMC donated a set of four books to each of the students and ten sets of the same books to the Department of Mathematics. The University will be recognized specially during the Awards Ceremony scheduled for July, 2013.
