UNIJOS notice on outstanding school charges ahead of examinations

The Bursary Department of the University of Jos has issued a memo to all Faculty Finance Officers regarding outstanding school charges and the consequences for students who fail to settle their fees before the upcoming examinations.

The memo, referenced UJ/FIN/AO/10 and dated 9th March, 2026, was signed by Mr. Emmanuel Udah, Senior Deputy Bursar, for the Bursar. It emphasized that according to the University of Jos Act, Cap. U8, the Bursary Department is mandated to collect all monies due to the University.

Following a review of students’ fee accounts, the Bursary Department discovered that many students, particularly returning students, are still in arrears of their school charges.

As a result, the University management has outlined several measures to ensure compliance with the payment policy:

1. No student will be allowed to write the 2025/2026 sessional examinations without valid evidence of payment of school charges.

2. Cash payments will not be permitted under any circumstances.

3. All school charges must be paid directly into the official University of Jos account.

4. Students are strongly warned not to pay money to any staff member or personal account other than the designated University account.

5. Staff of the Bursary Department will carry out on-the-spot verification of students’ evidence of payment.

6. Students are advised to strictly adhere to these instructions, as anyone who fails to comply does so at his or her own risk.

In conclusion, the Bursary Department wished members of the University community a smooth and successful 2025/2026 sessional examination period.
