National President of Uthman Danfodio University (UDU) Alumni Association, Dr. Mohammed Nasri Saidu, has blamed leaders in Nigeria for being responsible for the decay in the education system.

Dr. Mohammed Saidu who spoke in Kaduna also lamented that leaders have neglected education, only directing their attention to oil.

He said, "Education today in the country is now a survival of the fittest not a social service provided by the government. It is very painful to see that leaders who are responsible for this mess enjoyed free education from their primary to tertiary levels.

"You will not be surprised to find out that every day new universities are springing up across the country and pathetically some of these universities are owned by business men who are out to make money from the system without regards to quality. While others are those who send their children to school abroad because the system back home is a flop," he lamented.

Dr. Saidu who is an assistant director at the National Assembly, said it is time Nigerian leaders woke up from their slumber and tackled the issue of education in the country if they want to solve the problem of insecurity it is facing.

Speaking on his alma mater, the Uthman Danfodio University Sokoto, he said, "I can raise my shoulders high to tell anybody that my institution is the only one enjoying 100 percent accreditation in the country."
