A Senior lecturer at the Federal University, Gashua (FUGASHUA), in Yobe State, Dr. Samiu Dagari was assaulted by suspected political thugs after he allegedly accused politicians of engaging in sorcery and sodomy.

 A video posted online shows some persons beating up the Department of Chemistry lecturer after he alleged that some politicians in Nguru, his hometown, were involved in sorcery, sodomy, and other evil acts. The unidentified persons were said to have confronted the lecturer and started beating him up until other passersby intervened.

A statement issued by the university management, on Thursday, March 30, 2023, denied earlier claims that its students were responsible for the assault.

In the statement, the institution Registrar, Dr. Abubakar Mamuda, said that a viral video showing four youths flogging Dagari was deliberately manipulated to mislead the public and tarnish the image of the university and its students.

He added that the flogging was done by thugs hired by a politician during the 2023 general elections, and it took place in Nguru, the lecturer’s hometown, and not in Gashua.
