They also kicked against the appointment of Prof Omololu Soyombo as Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution. According to the senate, the condition for the removal of a Vice Chancellor is that a joint committee of the Senate and Governing Council must sit and investigate with three representatives from each side. But in the case of Ogundipe sack, the Senate was never represented and consulted, neithher did the Senate know the allegations against their member.

In a suit filed by Ogundipe's lawyer Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), the sacked VC alleged that the Council breached all known rules of natural justice and section 36 of the 1999 Constitution in purportedly removing him from his position as he was never heard at all or ever made to face any panel or Committee to defend himself against allegations of unauthorised expenditure of University funds.
