The leadership of the Rivers State University Students' Union Government (SUG) has released a formal update following a high-level strategic meeting with the University Management and the Vice-Chancellor. The report outlines key resolutions regarding student welfare, transportation costs, and campus security, aimed at fostering a more responsive and student-centered administration, and it reads;

​In our unwavering commitment to prioritize your welfare and bridge the gap between the student body and University Management, the leadership of the Students' Union Government (SUG), alongside various student bodies (EPF, FPF, DPF, NURSS), held a high-level consultative meeting with the Vice-Chancellor and Principal Officers of the University on the 4th May 2026.

​As your President, I am pleased to provide the following resolutions and updates from our deliberations:

​1. Bridging the Communication Gap

The Vice-Chancellor noted the need for higher student participation in institutional events. In response, we made it clear that academic clashes and late information are the primary hurdles. Moving forward, we have secured a commitment for better coordination and timely dissemination of information to ensure students can participate without compromising their lectures.

​2. Transport Fares & Student Welfare

We appealed to the school management on arbitrary increase in transportation fares. Having weighed the responses and comments of students we rendered a prayer to the University Management under the leadership of our Vice-Chancellor. The Vice-Chancellor has assured us that immediate measures are being taken to regulate these fares and keep campus transit affordable for everyone. Therefore, the transport remains ₦150 until a further revisitation of fuel pricing and hike.

​3. ID Card Resolution

To address the lingering frustrations regarding Student ID Cards, the Director of ICTC was brought into the session. We have outlined a clear, immediate roadmap to resolve all pending ID card issues. You can expect a smoother issuance process starting immediately.

​4. Security & The "Jean Carnival"

Management is open to lifting the ban on the Jean Carnival, provided we, as student leaders, guarantee absolute order and security. We are currently reviewing the safety protocols to ensure we can celebrate responsibly without compromising campus discipline.

​5. A Safer Campus (Anti-Drug Initiative)

In line with our zero-tolerance policy for drug abuse, we have agreed to partner with Management on increased sensitization. A disciplined environment is the only way to protect the integrity of our degrees.
