According to a statement issued on February 23, 2026, by the Director of Transport, Comr. Christopher John, the initiative was born out of the need to address the unique challenges faced by engineering students. These include risks associated with late-night laboratory sessions, workshop practice, and transit between campuses.

"The safety and mobility of our students are fundamental to a productive academic environment," the statement read. "This initiative is established to provide a dedicated safety net, ensuring that every engineering student has a direct point of contact during transit difficulties or security concerns."

The emergency line is designed to be accessible 24/7. In the event of a security threat or a dangerous transport situation, students are encouraged to call and clearly state their Name, Registration Number, and Current Location. This allows the response team to coordinate swiftly with campus security or transport authorities.

The association has, however, emphasized the importance of responsible use, urging students to treat the line with utmost seriousness and to reserve it strictly for genuine distress situations to keep it available for those in real danger.

"NUESA remains committed to the welfare of its students," the statement added. "We encourage all students to save these numbers and look out for one another. Your safety is not just a priority; it is a necessity for your success as an engineer."
