In celebration of its 10th anniversary, the Legal Ideas Forum International (LIFIN) has announced a nationwide essay competition open exclusively to undergraduate law students across Nigeria
Essay Topic and Scope
Participants are invited to write on the topic: The Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act (VAPP): Legal Provisions, State-Level Adoption, and the Effectiveness of Nigeria’s Response to Gender-Based Violence. The essay should critically analyze the provisions of the VAPP Act, explore its implementation across different states, and evaluate its impact in curbing gender-based violence in Nigeria.

Prizes
The competition offers substantial rewards for excellence:
- First Prize: ₦100,000 and publication in a magazine
- Second Prize: ₦50,000
- Third Prize: ₦30,000
Submission Guidelines
To enter the competition, candidates must follow these detailed steps:
1. Write Your Essay
Entrants must submit an original essay between 4,000 and 5,000 words.
The essay must be typed in Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced, and saved in PDF format.
Submissions must comply with the Nigerian Association of Law Teachers (NALT) citation standards.
All sources must be properly fact-checked, and entries must be free from plagiarism and AI-generated content.
2. Create a Video and Executive Summary
All Participants are required to create a short video lasting between 30 and 60 seconds.
In the video, they should introduce themselves and briefly describe their essay.
Additionally, a 200-word executive summary of the essay must be prepared.
Both the video and summary should include the official competition hashtag and be submitted via the following Google form
3. Publish on Social Media
To complete the submission process, participants must post their video and executive summary on LIFIN’s official social media platforms.
Engagement metrics such as likes, shares, and comments will contribute to the final judging rubric, encouraging students to amplify their message and connect with a broader audience.
Deadline for Submission
All entries must be submitted on or before *2nd September, 2025
