The International Law Students' Association, University of Ibadan (ILSA UI), has announced the inaugural edition of its essay competition, inviting students from tertiary institutions across Nigeria to engage in a thought-provoking exploration of a critical issue in international law.
Competition Overview
The maiden edition of the ILSA UI Essay Competition centers on the theme: "The Legality of Unilateral Economic Sanctions in International Law." This topic challenges participants to examine the legal foundations, implications, and controversies surrounding the imposition of economic sanctions by individual states without multilateral endorsement. It offers a platform for students to contribute original perspectives to a global legal debate that affects international relations, trade, and human rights.

Eligibility Criteria
The competition is open to all students currently enrolled in any recognized tertiary institution within Nigeria.
Prizes and Recognition
To reward excellence and encourage rigorous scholarship, the competition offers substantial cash prizes to the top three entries:
- First Prize: N200,000
- Second Prize: N120,000
- Third Prize: N80,000
Submission Guidelines
Interested participants are required to submit their essays in both Word and PDF formats. Entries should be sent via the official application link. All submissions must adhere to academic standards of originality, clarity, and proper referencing.
Deadline for Submission
The deadline for submission is October 18, 2025. Late entries will not be considered, and participants are encouraged to submit well before the closing date to ensure compliance with all requirements.
