FUNAAB Orientation: Be Focused – VC Advises Pre-Degree Students

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole, has advised Pre-Degree students of the University to be focused, in order to overcome T̶̲̥̅̊Ђę challenge ahead of them in life.

Vice-Chancellor gave this advice during the 2013/2014 Orientation Programmes for Pre-Degree and Cambridge ‘A’ level students of the University’s Institute for Human Resources Development (INHURD).

Professor Oyewole called on the students to be conscious of why they were in the Institute, have a clear vision and get prepared to face future challenges. Quoting the foremost educationist, Late Dr. Tai Solarin, who once wrote that “May your road be rough”, he charged them to always bear it in mind that the road to success is rough. Vice-Chancellor, also thanked the Director of INHURD, Professor Francis Sowemimo and the members of staff of the Institute for their effort at moving the Institute forward.

While speaking øn Entry Qualifications and Admission into FUNAAB, the Chairperson of the University’s Admissions Committee and Director, Agricultural Media Resources and Extension Centre, Professor (Mrs) Carolyn Afolami, took the students through the admission guidelines and admonished them to work hard because securing admission into the University was highly competitive and advised them to make wise choices of their preferred Universities, while filling the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination forms, going by the stipulated guidelines by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.

In the lecture, Recreations, Securities and Community Interactions, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Muyiwa Adejobi, tasked the students to be conscious of happenings in their environment and be involved in community relations., a Deputy Superintendent of Police, charged the students not to engage in cultism and other anti-social behaviours, as he warned of the consequence of bad association. He also advised them to avoid areas he tagged as ‘black spots’ in town, dress well and desist from what could bring them into police net.

Other speakers at the occasion include the Dean, College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development, Professor Bolanle Akeredolu-Ale, who spoke øn Examination and its Expectations; Deputy Director, INHURD, Mrs. Olubukola Agboola, who enlightened them about the Code of Conduct in INHURD the Deputy Director, Health Services, Dr Abiodun Amusan, who spoke øn Healthy Living and Health Facilities.

The Dean, Student Affairs, Professor Yemi Akegbejo-Samsons delved on the Effect of Campus Life on New intakes;the Principal Librarian of INHURD, Mrs Adeola George, spoke on the topic,Library Facilities in INHURD; Counsellor, Mrs Modesta Ofodile’s lecture was titled, Sex Education and Sexuality; Peter Madu, discussed Appearance and Mode of Dressing, while the Assistant Chief Environmental Officer, Mr. Peter Bolarinwa represented the Principal Environmental Officer, INHURD, Mr. Stephen Akingbesote, gave a talk onSecurity Matters at INHURD.

Earlier, the Director of INHURD, Professor Francis Sowemimo, gave a brief history of FUNAAB and the emergence of INHURD, as he counselled the students to face their studies squarely, shun bad behaviour and cooperate with members of staff of the Institute.
