Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti pulls out of ASUP strike

The withdrawal of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado – Ekiti Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) from the ongoing nation wide strike has been described as a decision taken in the best interest of the students and the entire Polytechnic Community.

ASUP’s Chairman in the Polytechnic, Comrade Tunji Owoeye, who stated that the decision to do so was taken at a recent congress of the Polytechnic Chapter, emphasised the determination of his members to give their best to the students. He however lamented the low turn-out of students in the lecture halls on the day of resumption.

Meanwhile, students have expressed delight over the decision describing it as a welcome development to reverse the setback they have suffered as a result of the strike. They expressed their determination to sit tight and face their academics squarely.

In their response, President of the Students Union, Comrade Owolade Oluwasijibomi, with the Union’s Director of Sports, Olofintuyi Emmanuel, expressed appreciation to the members of the academic staff for withdrawing from the strike and appealed to the lecturers to do their best to see that the students were fully engaged academically.

They promised the readiness of the Union to cooperate with the Management and the ASUP in this regard.

The authorities of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti had directed all its full time students to resume immediately following the withdrawal of the Polytechnic’s Chapter from the seven-week old National strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of the Polytechnics (ASUP).

In a circular to the Polytechnic community, the Registrar, Mrs. ‘Sade Adediran, informed that, lectures and other normal academic activities would commence promptly as from 8am on Monday, 2nd December, 2013.

The circular advised all parents, guidance, as well as the students concerned to note for strict compliance.
