A former lecturer with Salem University, Lokoja in Kogi State, Ejirefe Influence, has dragged the university and its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Alewu Johnson-Akubo before the National Industrial Court, over allegations of unpaid salaries, allowances, and pension deductions.

In the suit, the lecturer told the court that he decided to seek legal redress when it became obvious to him that the University was not going to keep to its promises of paying his outstanding financial entitlements, after he resigned from his appointment with the school on July 6, 2022, due to the accumulated financial indebtedness.

Ejirefe added that, before his resignation, he communicated with the Vice-Chancellor of the University in writing giving the institution three months' notice of his resignation in line with the terms of his appointment, and that the failure of the school to pay him all his financial entitlements has caused him serious stress and hardship as an individual and also on his family as he can no longer play his role as a father and a husband.

He asked the court to award him N15 million in general damages for his unpaid salaries, allowances, and pension that were deducted from his monthly salary.
