He gave the advice during a meeting of the University Management with Departmental Presidents and Leaders of the socio-Cultural groups as well as residential hall leaders in the Senate chambers of the University.

The interface was to intimate the students of the forthcoming e-voting for the Students Union elections scheduled for May 28, 2021.

Addressing the students at the Senate Chambers, the Vice-Chancellor stated his desire and dream to have the best student Union on campus and in Nigeria. He urged those seeking elective positions to note that their responsibility was service delivery for the welfare of students and not their personal benefits.

He informed them that Management had no interest in any of the aspirants; therefore, aspirants should go about their campaigns with free minds and be security conscious to elect competent and quality candidates that will represent their interests. 

The Vice-Chancellor stressed that any aspirants who molested anyone during the campaigns would be expelled from the University.

Professor Tor Iorapuu admonished students on the involvement of stakeholders (Students who have graduated) in the activities of the Union saying it would not be condoned by the Management. The so-called student’s stakeholders were therefore advised to keep-off the campus to allow the students operate independently.

The Director, Information and Communication Technology, Mr. Terna Abuul, in his submission, explained that only students who are duly registered can participate in the election to be conducted electronically.

Other issues raised at the parley include: Collapse fence at the Faculty of Law, Rule 9 on the Exam Permit card, number of Toilets on campus, payment of N4000 for SIWES and N2000 SIWES Log Book, electricity at the Faculty of Environmental Science, mobility on campus and Language Laboratory.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tor Iorapuu, has advised students spreading falsehood that the parley with the students Departmental and Hall Leaders agreed on an increase of additional N4,000 fees increment to find out the truth from their mates who were in the meeting.

According to him, what was explained to the students was the rationale for the payment of the said amount for the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), a scheme supervised by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF).

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, (Academic), Prof. Simon Terver Ubwa, Dean of Students, Prof. Emmanuel Eriba, Deputy Dean of Students, Prof. James Kur, Director, ICT, Mr. Terna Abuul and Students Affairs Officer, Tolufashe Funmi were present during the parley.
