The Vice Chancellor Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, has approved the appointment of Dr. Zakari Sabiu Yarima as Acting Director of the Security Division. 

The appointment is with immediate effect. Until his appointment, Dr Zakari was the immediate past Head, department of Sociology. 

He was at one time served in the security Division of the University where he rose to the rank of Assistant Security Chief. 

The Vice Chancellor, while congratulating the new appointee, said the appointment was based on merit. He said the Management has develop a zero tolerance on any security lapse. 

Professor Abbas promised to overhaul the security machinery with a view to taking drastic measures to ensure adequate security within the campuses. 

Born in Dayi Village in Malumfashi Local Government of Katsina State, Dr Sabiu Zakari Yarima, obtained a Bachelor of Laws, (LL. B); M. Sc Sociology and PhD in Sociology. 

He joined the services of Bayero University, Kano in 1998 as a security officer and rose to the rank of Assistant Chief Security officer where he left to joined the academic cadre in 2013. 

He was elected head, department of Sociology from 2022-2024 and appointed Deputy Director, Centre for Gender Studies in 2024 to date. 

Prior to joining Bayero University, Kano, Dr Zakari was an officer in the Nigerian Police from 1987-1995. 

The Acting Director Security, who is currently a Senior Lecturer in the department of Sociology served in a number of committees in the University.
