As part of concerted efforts of the present administration of the institution to expand its programmes, the Federal University of Technology, Minna has concluded arrangements to float six new departments in order to provide the needed manpower in critical sectors for the nation. 

To effectively commence the programmes, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, on Monday, December 14, 2020 played host to six teams from the National Universities Commission (NUC) which were in the institution for resource verification of the proposed programmes. 

The high-powered teams of experts were received at the University’s Senate Chamber, Main Campus.

The six departments that underwent NUC’s resource verification were; Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Plant Biology, Animal Biology, Information Technology, Logistics and Transport Technology as well as Project Management Technology.

Delivering the preliminary report for the Department of Petroleum and Gas Engineering, the leader of the team, Prof. Babagana Gutti from University of Maiduguri commended FUTMinna for the quality of faculty members and facilities put in place to commence the programme. 

On his part, the team leader for the Department of Information Technology, Prof. Hamnawa Mohammed Baba from the University of Abuja, disclosed that the team was impressed with the genuine readiness shown by the University and the proposed department to commence the programme while noting that the department has what it takes to commence the programme based on the state-of-art-facilities put in place by the University. 

He further advised the University to establish a department of Software Engineering.

The team leaders of the other four departments also took turns to deliver their preliminary reports to the Vice-Chancellor. 

The Department of Logistics and Transport Technology had Prof. Callistus C. Ibe from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) as its team leader. 

The team for the Department of Plant Biology was headed by Prof. Ahmad S. Kutama from the Federal University, Dutse, Prof. Chibueze Ogbonna was the team leader for the Department of Project Management Technology while Prof. Patrick A. Audu from the Federal University Lokoja led the team for the Department of Animal Biology.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Bala expressed appreciation to the team leaders for their objective assessment of the proposed programmes and assured them that all their observations would be looked into.

The Vice-Chancellor directed the Director of Academic Planning of the University, Prof. Faruk Kuta to aggregate all the observations raised by the teams for immediate discussion with Management.
