A 300 Level student of the Federal University Dutsinma, Katsina State, Najeeb Umar Shehu, has been arrested for murdering his stepmother, Hajiya Hasiya Galadima, a retired civil servant with the Katsina State Government,

It was gathered that the student who is infamous for his consumption of hard drugs had on several occasions promised to kill the deceased whom he blamed for the end of his parent's marriage. 

The eldest child in the family, Mustapha Shehu Umar, who narrated what transpired, said the 24-year-old student who is the last child in the family has never hidden his disdain for their stepmother and was reported to the police severally, but no serious action was taken against him.

Mustapha explained that on the day of the incident, Najeeb went on a rampage and tried locking his father in his room before attacking his stepmother who was in the sitting room. He is said to have smashed her head with a pestle severally, shattering her skull. His father in a bid to stop him was left with broken arms and legs.

Najeeb has since been arrested while his father is currently receiving treatment. The deceased has also been buried according to Islamic rites.
