A relative density bottle has a mass of 19 g when empty. When it is completely filled with water, its mass is 66 g. What will be its mass if completely filled with alcohol of relative density 0.8?
47 g
52.8 g
37.6 g
56.6 g

mass in air = 19
mass in water = 66
mass in alchol =?
relative density = 0.8
R.d = upthrust in liquid/ upthrust in water
upthrust in liquid = Mass in air - mass in liquid
upthrust in water =mass in air - mass in water
R.d = mass in air - mass in liquid / mass in air - mass in water
0.8 = 19 - x / 19- 66
0.8 = 19-x / -47
-37.6 = 19 -x
-37.6-19 = -X
-56.6 = -X
x = 56.6 g

From the given parameters get Mass of water and volume of bottle
Mass of water Mw = 66 - 19 = 47g
= = > volume of bottle
NOTE: Density of water is 1g/cm³
Density = Mass/Volume
V = 47 / 1 = 47cm³
Since R.D of alcohol is 0.8, meaning its density is 0.8 g/cm^3.
0.8 = Ma / 47
Ma = 47 x 0.8 = 37.6g
Total Mass = mass of empty bottle + Ma
= 37.6 + 19 = 56.6g
Hope it helps
