Light of wavelength 589 nm in vacuum passes through a piece of fused quartz of index of refraction n = 1.458. What is the frequency of the light in fused quartz?

[Speed of light c = \(3.00×10^8 ms^{-1}\)]

a

\(5.09×10^{15}\)Hz

b

\(5.09×10^{14}\) Hz

c

Since Frequency is same both in Vacuum and Medium, Accurate way is 👇👇

wavelength = 589nm = 5.89 x 10^-7
F = C / wavelength = (3 x 10^8) / (5.89 x 10^-7)
= 5.09 x 10^14 Hz

frequency doesn't change when light passes from one medium to another so if u solve for the frequency of the vacuum it is the same for the frequency of fused quartz

so the frequency of light in vacuum is equal that of the medium. check it
