The horizontal component of the initial speed of a particle projected at 30° to the horizontal is 50 m\(^{-1}\). If the acceleration of free fall due to gravity is 10 ms\(^{-2}\), determine its;
(a) initial speed;
(b) speed at the maximum height reached.
(a) Horizontal component
\(U_x = U cos \theta\)
U = \(\frac{U_x}{cos0} = \frac{50}{cos 30^o}\) = 57.7 m/s
(b) At maximum height
\(v_y = O\) and \(V_x = U_x\) = 50m/s
V = \(\sqrt{V^2_x + V^2_v} = \sqrt{50^2 + 0^2}\)
= 50m/s
