The reason given above as for why sound waves cannot be polarized is not sufficient enough.

The reason why sound waves cannot be polarized is because of their their direction of propagation. Sound waves travel along the direction of their vibrations. Hence they cannot be made to vibrate in one plane (plane polarized).
