The chosen answer is totally wrong.
Gravitational potential (P)=Fr
but F=GMm/r²
P=(GMmm/r²)×r
P=GMm/r (this is for clarification only, the gravitational potential is negative)

From the above equation, one can easily point out that Gravitational potential is inversely proportional to the distance of the masses apart
