Earth acts as a ground of zero potential. So when a positively charged conductor is connected to the earth, positive charge flows into the earth and as a result, electrons flow from earth to the conductor.
Electrons have a negative charge. The charge on the proton and electron are exactly the same size but opposite. Neutrons have no charge. Since opposite charges attract, protons and electrons attract each otherElectrons have a negative charge. When body is connected to earth, its potential goes zero. Hence it needs to be electrically neutral, and thus electrons flow from earth to the body to neutralize the earlier positively charged body.
