since this is about electron transistion from lowere level to higher level,
the formula to use is E2 - E1
E2 = -10.4 and E1 = -1.60
E2 and E1 are second energy level and first energy level respectively

∆E = E2 - E1 = -10.4 --1.60 = -10.4+1.60 = -8.80
the minus sign shows energy is lost inform of heat
