Armature coil is actually the rotating rectangular coil, that brings about the induction of electromotive force.
Generally a.c generators lacks commutators(split ring) but are made up of:
1.a powerful curved pole magnet with a computed soft iron core to concentrate the magnetic field
2.an armature, which when an external couple act on rotate and then goes through varying magnetic strength causing a generation of EMF(in accordance with faraday 1831 steel or soft iron ring and solenoid-magnet relative motion experiment)
3.slip ring, with an attached carbon brush for conduction of current to the external circuits.
