In the fig above W\(_1\) = 200g, and W\(_2\) =450g. Calculate the extension of the spring per unit load.
[g = 10ms\(^{-2}\)]

a

6.0 x 10-5mN-1

b

2.5 x 10-4mN-1

c

It's not that difficult.

7.5-6.0(cm)/450-200(g)
Remember we'll still need to do our conversions to metre and kilograms.
1.5/250
After conversion: 0.015/2.5= 6 *10^-3mN^-1

please I need help in understanding what formula to apply

this one took me months to figure out, infact this one is the hardest i have ever solved but i think i have an answer.
let us take X to be the original lenght
200 g/1000kg =0.2kg
0.2kg × 10m/s = 2N(newton)
if you do the same for 450g you will get 4.5kg.
2/6-X = 4.5/7.5-X
if we solve the equation above, we will get X to be = 4.8m
so therefore 4.8m is the original length of the string.
if you don't know where i got the above equation from, you can check on the formula to find original length of a string.
now here comes the tricky part of the question, i want you to look at the options carefully. what do you see? the answer is in meter per newton not newton pre meter
so if we take one of the weights, W1 which is 2newtons, then we divide (6-4.8) by 2N. let us note that (6-4.8) is the extension that 2N made. then covert your answer to m. as you all know, rulers are measured in cm and i didn't convert the figures earlier. then you will get option C.
if this one doesn't work. we leave the question for God.
