An inelastic collision takes place between ball of known masses, just before the collision one of the ball is moving with a known velocity while the other is stationary. Which of the following physical quantities can be determined from the information given?

a

speed of each of the ball after collision

b

kinetic energy of each ball after collision

c

total momentum of the ball after collision

d

total momentum of the two ball after collision

For inelastic collision
m1u1 + m2u2 = (m1+m2)V
If m2 is stationary
m1u1=(m1+m2)v
the total momentum of both balls after collision is
(m1+m2)V

In an inelastic collision, the bodies stick together after the collision therefore having a common velocity so we can't get the "speed of each of the balls after collision" as suggested in option A or the "Kinetic energy of each ball after collision" in option B:

In conclusion, the answer is D
