the answer is black because the question didn't say " the mixture of red and green which is yellow" but rather it says when viewed in a pure green light....... therefore the answer is black because when green light is shone on a red object, it absorbs all the green light and therefore not reflecting anything. Hence, it appears black......

When a red shirt is viewed under a pure green light, it will appear black.

Here's why:

Color Absorption and Reflection: Objects appear colored because of the wavelengths of light they reflect. A red shirt absorbs most wavelengths of light and primarily reflects red wavelengths.

Green Light: Pure green light only contains green wavelengths.

What Happens: When the green light shines on the red shirt, the shirt absorbs the green wavelengths because it is designed to reflect red, not green. Since there are no red wavelengths in the green light to be reflected, no light reaches your eyes from the shirt that your brain can interpret as color.

Perception of Black: In the absence of any reflected light (or very minimal reflection), the object appears black.
