The diagram above shows an incident ray A, inclined at angle of 50º to the interface CB. The ray OB is found to lie along the surface. What is the refractive index of the medium X with respect to air?

a

sin50o/sin40o

b

sin40osin50o

c

sin90o/sin50o

d

sin40o/sin90o

e

The answer is wrong
We're looking for the refractive index of X. (And not refractive index of air with respect to X, so it'll be the inverse)

Then, it'll be anx = 1/sinC = sinr/sini = sin90/sin40

Refractive index should be the sine of angle of incidence over the sine of angle of refraction. That should be sine 40/sine 90 and that should be option D.
