To determine which statement(s) about radiant heat is/are not correct, let's analyze each statement:

I. Radiant heat cannot travel through a vacuum.
This statement is incorrect. Radiant heat, also known as electromagnetic radiation, can travel through a vacuum. In fact, radiant heat travels best through a vacuum since there are no particles to absorb or scatter the radiation.

II. Rough surfaces emit radiant heat more than polished surfaces.
This statement is correct. Rough surfaces have a higher emissivity, which means they are more efficient at emitting radiant heat compared to polished or smooth surfaces.

III. Dark surfaces absorb radiant heat more than bright surfaces.
This statement is also correct. Dark surfaces have a higher absorptivity, which means they absorb more radiant heat compared to lighter or brighter surfaces.

Therefore, the only statement that is not correct is statement I: "Radiant heat cannot travel through a vacuum."

The correct answer is A. I only.✅

The 3 modes of heat transfer are construction, convention and radiation (also know as radiant energy). The first two modes of heat transfer require material medium for their transfer while radiant energy can travel through vacuum. This explains why heat energy from the sun can reach. Shiny and polished surfaces are slow to absorb or reflect radiant energy. But dark or black surfaces absorb radiant energy easily.
