conduction refers to a method of heat transfer whish requires a stationary (static) medium while convection is a method in which heat is transferred in a liquid or gas by the movement of the heated fluid
since glass is solid and has static particles it means it got cooled through conduction while the water got cooled through convection because it's in fluid state and there's movement of particles.

the glass is cooled by conduction why the water is cooled by conventional exchange medium from hoter to colder medium . this makes the water cool and thereby also making the glass cool by conduction.. by contact of cold water with the glass .
