option D would have been correct if the process took place in a vaccuum without retarding forces
for motion under gravity and for a body moving upwards we have that V^2=U^2-2gh
hence initial velocity U=0, g= 10 and V = 100ms^-1
therefore substituting we have
100^2=0^2 - 2 x 10 x h
10000=20h
:. h= 10000/20= 500m
and note that the two balls were thrown at the same time and with the same velocities of 100ms^-1 irrespective of their masses so also their heights one second latee will be the same irrespective of their masses
so my school V^2 is 100ms^-1 and not 0 
Using s = ut - 0.5gt²:
s = 100(1) - 0.5(9.8)(1)²
s = 100 - 4.9
s ≈ 95.1 m high
Both X and Y are at same height ~95.1 m one second later.

The solvings of the wuestion is wrong so the options are automatically wrong.The formular V2=u2-2gh is used when we know the final velocity v after 1 second which they didnt account for.
The solving above is wrong as the time taken to reach maximum height (where v=0) is not 1sec,, rather, it's 10secs.
