but why not potassium hydroxide only??
why the solution again??

the reason is because for an electrolyte to conduct electricity, it must be in a molten or in an aqueous.

electrolyte may be acids like H2SO4, HCL or bases like NaOH, KOH.

on that note, not all acids or bases can conduct electricity such as weak acid like CH3COOH.
