A 2000W electric heater is used to heat a metal object of mass 5kg initially at 10oC. If a temperature rise of 30oC is obtained after 10min, the heat capacity of the material is

6.0 x 104JoC-1

b

4.0 x 104JoC-1

c

1.2 x 104JoC-1

Well guys many may think im wrong but the answer is B....... let me give my solution
IVT=CpΔθ

IV=2000W

T=10*60=600sec

θ1=10° C

then the twisting part in the question
Δθ= 30° C
It was stated that the "temperature rise" was 30° C which is completely different from "the final temperature after heating the metal"
Cp=?
IVT = CpΔθ

Cp=IVT/Δθ
Cp= 2000*600/30
Cp= 1,200,000/30
Cp= 40,000
Cp= 4.0 x 10^4JoC-1
option B is correct

Heat capacity =pt
———
Change in temperature
Pt = 2000*10*60
=1200000
Heat capacity = 1200000/(30-10)
=1200000/20
=6 * 10^4 therefore A

I thought C = mc

I.e Heat capacity = mass * specific heat capacity? Someone should please comment.

If my above assumption is correct then A is the answer.

Specific heat capacity deals with mass
Heat capacity deals with mole.
A☑️☑️☑️

Mass m isn't included bcoz dey.ar.talkin abt Heat Capacity not Specific Heat Capacity

the formula applicable is PT = MCT

WHEN T IS CHANGE IN TEMPERATURE

2000 X 60 X 10 = 5 X C X (30-10)

C = 2000X600/100

C= 12000

ANS ....C

There already said temperature rise of 30 degree celcius so we need not subtract 10 from 30
I made that mistake

please hw do we get 60

I do not agree, the answer is C

we where asked to calculate heat capacity and not specific heat capacity

Elyoncollege5

we were asked to find heat capacity but instead the answer shows specific heat capacity

I think the answer is A
10+273 =283
30+273 =303

303-283= 20

c = 2000 x 10 x 60
-----------------
20 x 5

= 12,000

c = 5 x 12,000
= 60,000.
