E(intensity) = 1/Distance^2
intensity = 1/2^2
intensity = 1/4
intensity is increasing by 1/4 distance
intensty is DECREASING by 4 distance
because as intensity increases distance decreases square

Myschool is correct in this case. Mathematically, if you increase x by a factor of 2, it becomes 2x. Decreasing x by a factor of 2 gives x/2. So 1/4 (diving by 4) is the same thing as saying it was decreased by a factor of 4.

N/B: In case of any doubt, feel free to verify. You'll see that myschool is correct in this particular situation.

Should be 0.25
R= distance
R being doubled
Take R to be 1, therefore being doubled R= (1 + 1) or (1 × 2) = 2
Therefore we have it A=(1)/(R²)
A= 1/ (2²)
A = 1/4
A = 0.25
