Solving 3x - 2y = -5 and x + 2y = 9 simultaneously using elimination method
3x - 2y = - 5 ----------- (i)
x + 2y = 9 ----------- (ii)
4x = 4
x = 1
put x = 1 into eqn ---(ii)
x + 2y = 9 becomes 1 + 2y = 9
2y = 9 - 1 = 8
y = \(\frac{8}{2}\) = 4
x = 1 and y = 4
Therefore, \(\frac{x - y}{x + y}\) = \(\frac{1 - 4}{1 + 4}\) = \(\frac{- 3}{5}\)
