In the diagram, BCDE is a circle with centre

A. BCD = (2x + 40)°, BAD = (5x - 35)º, BED = (2y+ 10)° and ADC=40". Find:

(a) the values of x and y;

For the people who don't understand, the first equation is gotten as opposite sides in a cyclic quadrilateral are supplementary ( they add up to 180 degrees ) so they equated it and got the equation x + y = 65.

The second equation is derived from the law that says the angle subtended at the center of the circle is twice the angle at the circumference. So they equated "5x - 35 = 2(2y+ 10)".

Although what I don't understand is that the diagram used negative signs but equation uses positive.
