I believe there's a mistake in the solving
Analysing the question carefully, I've made an observation which opposes the solving above
The question stated that we should find his salary in the 8 MONTH OF THE THIRD YEAR
Grammatically, this means in the THIRD year is not yet complete. This means they are currently in the third year but in the 8th month, meaning it 2 years and 8 months, not 3 years and 8 months. If the question had stated as follows "THE 8TH MONTH OF THE 4TH YEAR, IT WOULD'VE BEEN CORRECT.
Get my point?

I think the correct answer to this question is 804 because if after 6 months his salary increases by 36, it means his salary increases by (36/6)=6 every month.
But there 44 months in 3 years 8 month. That means his increment will be N6×44= N264.
Therefore his salary by then will be his initial salary + Increment
N540 + N264 = N804
