I think the question was wrongly composed. It should be the other way round, that is, the difference between 1/8 and 1 2/3 is less than the sum of 3 7/8 and 1 1/3 by:

3*8+7/8 + 1*3+1/3 - 3/8-3*1+2/3

=5,5/24 - (-1,7/24) = 5,5/24 + 1,7/24 = 6,1/2

My school,u give us wrong answers
Here is the correct answer
(31/8 +4/3)-(3/8-5/3)
Open the bracket
31/8 +4/3 -3/8 +5/3
(93+32-9+40)/24
156/24=6.5
The ans is C

The working goes like this
3\7\8+1\1\3=5\5\24
1/2/3-3/8=5/3-3/8=40-9/24=31/24=1/7/24
So we bring down the first equation-the second equation

From the explanation below the question state 37/8 and 11/3 less than the defference between 1/8 and 12/3 but when explaining you put 3/8-12/3 ,and how did you get 5 5/24 from the equation 1

31/8+4/3 - (-3/8 - 5/3)
= 125/24 -(-31/24)= 125/24+31/24
=156/24 = 13/2 = 6 1/2
