Let's try solving it this crazy way;

Starting with this one;
4x - 3 = 3x + y = x - y = 3
subtract (4x - 3) all through the equation then we'll have:
0 = -x + y + 3 = -3x - y + 3 = 6 - 4x
remove the zero end then we're left with:
-x + y + 3 = -3x - y + 3 = 6 - 4x
now subtract (-x + y + 3) all through the equation, then we'll have:
0 = -2x - 2y = 3 - 3x - y
now remove the zero end again and we're left with:
-2x - 2y = 3 - 3x - y
collect like terms:
3x - 2x + y - 2y = 3
x - y = 3 .....(i)

Then we have the second equation from the question to be:
3x + y = 2y + 5x - 12
collect like terms
3x - 5x + y - 2y = -12
-2x - y = -12
multiply through by -1
2x + y = 12 .....(ii)

Now we have two equations:
x - y = 3 .....(i) &
2x + y = 12 .....(ii)

Solving simultaneously you'll have y=5 & x=2 as your final answer.

But to me the method I used to get that equation (i) seems wierd to me coz when I put those values of x & y back into the real equation I'm getting:
5 = 11 = -3 = 3, which is odd.
I guess there's an error in the question which @DEREK must have done by splitting the first equation into two. But that's still weird to me so I'll simply say that MySchool is correct but the answer was gotten through illegal mathematical manipulations.😆😂😁
