Social Works can be studied under the Social & Management Sciences in the following Nigerian Universities;
In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Social Works under the Faculty of Social & Management Sciences in the above listed universities include;
Mathematics, Economics/Geography and any other subject
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS
(I) UNILAG requires English Language, two Social Sciences subjects and one Arts subject. **Mathematics is accepted.
(ii) UNICAL and UNN require Any three Social Science or Arts Subjects.
(iii) UNIBEN requires two Social Science subjects and any other subject.
(iv) UNIPORT requires any three (3) others from Social Sciences (including Maths/Arts).
(v) FED-LAFIA requires Economics, Government or History, and any other Arts or Social Sciences subject.
The O'level subject combination and requirements needed to study Social Works;
You require;Five (5) SSC credits including English Language and Mathematics
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS
(i) UNILAG requires Five ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, and any two of Economics, Government/History, Civic Education and Geography and one of Literature-in-English, CRK/IRK, any Nigerian Language and Biology
(ii) UNN requires five (5) 'O' Level credit passes which must include English Language and any four (4) Arts or Social Science Subjects
(iii) REDEEMER'S requires five (5) 'O' Level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics and three (3) subjects in Social Sciences or Arts.
(iv) UNICAL accept a pass in Mathematics.
(v) UNIBEN requires five (5) 'O' Level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Government, Geography or any other Social Science subject
(vi) UNIPORT requires Five (5) SSC credits including English Language and any four (4) from Economics, Commerce, Mathematics, Government/History, Geography, CRK/IRK. Note a Pass in Mathematics is compulsory, if Mathematics is not inclusive in the five credits.
(vii) FED-LAFIA requires Five (5) Credit passes at SSCE, GCE, NECO and NABTEB O’ Level Examination Credit in Mathematics, English and three other Credits in any of the following: Economics, Government, History, CRS/IRS and any other Arts and Social Sciences subject in not more than two sittings.
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Social Works, if you don't intend to use UTME.
You require;Two (2) 'A' Level passes in any subjects
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS
(i) UNN accepts two (2) 'A' Level passes plus the UTME requirements
(ii) UNIBEN accepts in addition to O’ level requirements either
a. two (2) 'A' Level passes to include Government or History.
b. ND upper credit in relevant programmes from a recognised Polytechnic or College of Technology.
c. HND lower credit in relevant programmes from a recognised polytechnic or college of Technology.
d. NCE credit in a Social Science subject from a recognised College of Education. In addition, candidates should have at least an overall merit.
(iii) UNILAG accepts; Very good passes in three JUPEB/A’ Level subjects: Any three of Economics, Government, Geography, History and CRS/IRS. University of Lagos Diploma in Social Development and Administration (SDA).
(iv) UNIPORT accepts At least two (2) A/level passes in GCE or HSC or JUPEB or IJMB in any Arts subject in addition to UTME entry requirements.
(v) FED-LAFIA accepts In addition to UTME requirements, DE candidate must have any of the following: IJMB: Candidates should have at least 9 points in subjects relevant to Social Work. NCE: Candidates should at least have Merit pass in a Course that is relevant to Social Work. ND should not be less than lower Credit pass in Social Development or Social Administration or any other Social Development components
