Linguistics, Igbo and other African Languages can be studied under the Arts & Humanities in the following Nigerian Universities;

Subject Combination JAMB UTME Requirements

Igbo and two (2) subjects from Arts and Social Sciences.



SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

i. UNN requires Igbo or any other Language and any other two (2) subjects. For Linguistics (Option), requires Literature in English and two (2) other subjects.

ii. UNILAG requires English Language and any three Arts, Science or Social Sciences.

 

O'level Requirements

Five (5) SSC credit passes to include Igbo, English Language and any other Arts subject.


SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

i. UNN requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English language and one Science subject.  Candidates for Linguistics must possess 'O' Level credit pass in Literature in English while candidates for linguistics and Nigerian Language must posses 'O' Level credit pass in the Nigerian language to be combined with linguistics.

ii. UNILAG requires Five O/Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and any three Arts, Science or Social Sciences. Social Studies and Civic Education are also accepted.

Direct Entry Requirements

The direct entry requirements for Linguistics, Igbo and other African Languages in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities are as follows:

1. Two ‘A’ level passes in Igbo and one Arts/Social Science subject.

2. NCE in Igbo and one Arts subject.



SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS


i. UNN accepts A’ level or NCE (Merit) passes in at least one language and one other subject plus UTME requirement.

ii. UNILAG accepts Very good passes in three JUPEB/A’ Level subjects in Igbo/Yoruba and any two of History, CRS/IRS, French, Government, Music, Visual Arts and Literature-in-English. NCE (Merit) in two subjects to include a Nigerian Language. LASU Diploma in Communication Arts.
