The table G below shows the value of commodities exported by a country in the year 2020. Study and use the question that follows
Table G
|
exported commodities |
value of commodities in US dollars
|
| Cocoa | 729 |
| Diamond | 400 |
| Gold | 900 |
| Crude oil | 196 |
(a) Using a radius scale of 1 cm to represent 10 units, draw proportional circles to represent the value of exported commodities by the country in a year 2020,[ use the square root method ]
(b) calculate the percentage of the value of gold exported in the year 2020.
(a) Drawing of proportional circles
Calculation of square root values for each exported commodity
Cocoa = √729 ÷ 27
Diamond = √400
Gold = √900 = 30
Crude oil = √196 = 14
Calculation of circle radii using the given scale
cocoa = \(\frac{27}{10} \) =2.7cm
diamond = \(\frac{20}{10} \) =2cm
gold = \(\frac{30}{10} \) =3cm
crude oil = \(\frac{14}{10} \) =1.4cm
The percentage of gold exported in the year 2020
The total value of exported commodities
= $729 +$400 + $900 +$196 + $2225
: Gold = \(\frac{$900}{$2225} \times 100% \) =40.45%
