(a) calculate the; 
i. total population of country Z
ii. total land area of country Z
iii. population density of country Z

(b) State four factors that are responsible for high population densities of countries.

(c) Explain three advantages associated with countries of high population density

Explanation

(a)i. Total population of country Z (in millions):  = 5.5 + 8.0+ 6.7+ 4.8 = 25 million (25,000,000)

ii. Total land area of country Z (in Km\(^{2}\)): = 60,000+105,000+125,000+88,000 = 378,000 km\(^{2}\)

iii. Population density of country Z = \(\frac{\text {Total population }}{\text {Land area}}\) = \(\frac{25,000,000}{378,000}\) = 66.1 persons per km\(^{2}\)

 

(b) Factors that are responsible for a high population density of a country:

-Fertile soil
- Favourable climate
- Lack of family planning
- Availability of infrastructure
- Improved standard of living
- Availability of social amenities
- Good transportation network
- Improved agricultural practices
- Low death rate/mortality.
- High birthrate
- Educational facilities

- Ease of provision of social amenities
- High investment opportunity
- Quick dissemination of information/ideas
- High planning
